Joe Poist
Vice President, Civil Space, Space Business Unit, SAIC
Joseph “Joe” Poist is Vice President, Civil Space within the Space Business Unit in the National Security and Space Sector.
Mr. Poist is responsible for the growth (pipeline), execution, and talent management for the Civil Space portfolio; with the current portfolio consisting of approximately 27 programs with a $16B+ pipeline. Joe oversees the forecasting, monitoring, and execution of programs for ensuring the operation meets its share of the annual business plan financials and operational objectives with a focused effort on driving growth that aligns with the broader organizational strategic plans. The pipeline responsibilities requires the identifying, planning, executing, and leading the business development strategies and directing multiple simultaneous capture efforts across the account. Mr. Poist strives for excellence in creating and maintaining a collaborative environment conducive to the professional growth and development of staff and the free flow of information throughout the entire organization!
Prior to joining SAIC, Joe served as the NASA Goddard Chief of Staff, where he had the direct responsibility for assisting with the oversight of a $5B+ portfolio of programs with 10,000+ Civil Servants and Contractors at 4 distinct locations across the United States. Leading up to this responsibility Joe served in various positions throughout his 14+ year Civil Servant career, including Associate Deputy Chief Financial Officer for Resources. Overseeing Government programs from inception through final product which thoroughly prepared him for the rigors of overseeing the execution of Government Contracts.
Mr. Poist received his Bachelors of Science Degree from Salisbury University where he graduated with Honors as the President of Beta Alpha Psi. Joe also earned his Certified Public Accountants (CPA) License immediately upon graduation and joining the workforce.
In addition to Joe’s daily operational responsibilities he also serves as the President of the Goddard Advocacy Partnership as well as the Vice President of the Goddard Contractors Association, which both serve to further advance the amazing accomplishments of the NASA missions (especially at the Goddard Space Flight Center). Lastly, in the little free time left Joe also serves Volunteer Fire Fighter/EMT in Anne Arundel County, MD.
